Barcelona's Champions League Hopes

With Roma, PSG, and Real Madrid out of the competition, is this Barcelona's best chance of finally lifting the cup since 2015.

In the first leg of the Round of 16, Barcelona drew 0 - 0 away against Lyon. It was a frustrating game in which they failed to capitalize on the numerous chances that were created and the solid defending from Lyon. Messi was great but was missing that finishing touch that we all know he has.
With the return leg at the Camp Nou (lost only 17 times since August 2008) there is almost a 100 percent certainty that we will win this game.

Since lifting the trophy in 2015, Barcelona has progressed through the Round of 16 comfortably, but has reached a certain roadblock being the quarter finals. Atletico in 2015/16, Juventus in 2016/17 and Roma last season, the last one being one of the most heart wrenching losses I've experienced as a Barcelona fan since I started watching football.

Messi has been absolutely brilliant this season but the team is too dependent on him. Suarez has been good domestically, but has struggled in Europe for the last three seasons and hasn't scored in 5 appearances in the current campaign. That is a problem. Coutinho was great at the start of the season and justified his price tag but has fallen off since. He has showed some brilliance but he needs to be way more consistence. Barcelona's golden boy Dembele has been a blessing to watch this season. He has come in clutch and won important games for the team. Yes, he still has his flaws and can be erratic, but that hasn't stopped him. His confidence to carry the ball, drive and take on opponents is what makes him special.

Other key players include;
  • Marc- Andre ter Stegen: In my opinion the best goalkeeper at the moment.
  • Lenglet and Pique: The best centre back pairing as Umtiti has not been fit and is still recovering.
  • Arthur: The heir replacement of Xavi and oozes with class and composure well beyond his years.
  • Rakitic: The unsung hero of the club and with his versatility can help in both offense and defence.
Barcelona is having a spectacular season so far. Top of the league and in the Copa del Rey final. All that is left is the UCL. If Valverde makes the right decisions by resting key players in the less important fixtures saving them for the big games ahead and with a little bit of luck, I know we can do it.

VISCA EL BARÇA!
